The South Carolina Access to Justice Commission was established by Administrative Order on January 31, 2007. The purpose of the Commission is to expand and enhance legal representation to South Carolinians with low income or of modest means.
The Commission completed a series of regional statewide public hearings in spring 2008. Members of the public, the private bar, legal services attorneys and community providers spoke out about barriers blocking access to justice. The final hearing was held at the South Carolina Supreme Court on Wednesday, November 5, 2008.
